Honorary Patron
Ulla Schmidt, Member of the German Parliament and former Federal Minister of Health
»Medicine has made tremendous progress in the treatment of HIV patients. However, AIDS is still a deadly virus that gravely affects the quality of life of those infected with it.
HIV patients are still stigmatized and discriminated against. There are still HIV patients that conceal the fact of their infection for fear of the reactions of their immediate surroundings. The right way of dealing with the disease and those affected by it is not self-evident.
Therefore, AIDS must remain present in public awareness. And that is the reason why I support the project ›Stimmen in der Stadt‹. It brings the theme of AIDS into the public sphere by way of making it audible, and thus points the way towards acceptance and against stigmatization and discrimination. I am very happy about this initiative and took the role of honorary patron out of deep conviction.«
